The whole concept of light years will (probably) blow your mind!

A light-year is the distance light travels in one year in basic words, but let me give you some examples. A supernova exploding in a faraway galaxy 70 million light-years away was just captured by the Hubble telescope, meaning that the explosion occurred 70 million years ago and we are only now witnessing it. To give you another example, if you were on a planet 65 million light-years distant from Earth and had a large enough telescope to observe the earth, you would theoretically see dinosaurs roaming on the earth because dinosaurs lived 65 million years ago.

Light takes 8 minutes and 20 seconds to get from the sun to the earth, which means that if the sun suddenly vanished, we wouldn’t notice for another 8 minutes and 20 seconds.
